Sphinx are a symbol of initiation, end of a cycle, element magick, meeting the dark mother. Mythology has the sphinx as a gate-keeper and to pass through you must correctly answer a riddle, but if you get it wrong you are devoured. What is beyond the gate way is unknown, it could be material, mental, spiritual or esoteric.
