River of Doves

Doves are a symbol of peace, love, spirit messenger, feminine energies, maternity, prophesy. Doves have the ability to produce their own milk and because of this they are a symbol of nurturing and motherhood. There will also go on a fast just prior to the chick being born to produce the purest milk, and this means that the dove is also a symbol of self sacrifice, especially for their offspring. The dove is often associated with several mother figures, the most well-known of these being the Virgin Mary. In Christian art the dove is used to represent the care and devotion of Mary to Jesus. The dove is also associated with Istar in Assyrian tradition. Aphrodite is often pictured with a dove near by. This is a symbol of a higher love.
