Fly like Aphrodite and Eros

As we are on an unavoidable countdown towards Valentine’s Day, I will try and lighten my sadness of being alone AGAIN by turning to mythology. Aphrodite is the Greek Goddess of love and sexuality. Despite being married to Hephaistos, she had a string of lovers, her personal favourite being Ares, the War God. A festival was held in her honour. At her temple it was seen as an appropriate “sacrifice” for worshippers to have orgasmic sex with the priestess. The temple was destroyed by the Romans, but fertility rites still continued to be performed there. Aphrodite liked to meddle in the love lives of mortals and in doing so, caused the Trojan War. Aphrodite’s child is Eros, the God of lust and carnal desires. Erotic comes from his name. He is a symbol of all forms of lust, both homosexual and heterosexual, and with his mother are often called upon in fertility rites.
